Happy New Year.

As we begin a new season of weekly devotions, may the Lord encourage, challenge, calm, inspire, and meet with us.

In the final hours of 2023, I joined the New Year party at Trinity Baptist Church. It was a fitting end to the year. We welcomed one another, enjoyed food, played games and laughed, sang songs of worship, and took time to express thanks to God for blessings in 2023 and to pray as we entered 2024. The final hours of 2023 were a picture of what I pray the Lord will continue to bless in 2024: life lived before God in reverence, reflection, joy, love, community, prayer, worship, and celebration.

Take this moment to listen to Psalm 145:1-6. May these words be your prayer for 2024.

I will exalt you, my God the King; I will praise your name for ever and ever. Every day I will praise you and extol your name for ever and ever.

Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts.

They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty—and I will meditate on your wonderful works. They tell of the power of your awesome works—and I will proclaim your great deeds.
