We have new concrete steps outside our church building. By the time you watch this devotion, they should be complete.

Last month, workmen began to jackhammer the old steps. They removed the old concrete. They placed steel rebar. They positioned the wooden “forms”. Last week, a huge cement truck arrived and concrete was poured. The next day, the wooden forms were removed. And now we have new steps with an even surface. We can confidently walk up and down the steps knowing they are solid, firm, and strong.

Listen to Psalm 37:23-24:

The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall for the Lord upholds him with his hand.

The Lord promises to keep us stable as we walk through life with him. The Lord promises to hold us when we stumble and not let us fall.

There will be difficulties. There will be times when it feels as though we are walking in despair or darkness or doubt. I’m sure each of us has faced times like these. Maybe some of us are facing difficult times right now. The Lord tells us he is with us. He invites us to delight in him even when it looks like we are stumbling.

I need to hear this, I guess we all do. Jesus is my firm foundation and he makes my steps firm. Today, look to him. He promises to hold you, and his promise is even stronger than new concrete steps.
